Wendy Austin
I have been teaching at
Edinboro University of Pennsylvania since
1988. In October 2000, I completed my doctoral dissertation--an
investigation of how the Internet has affected the teaching of the
research paper--from Indiana
University of Pennsylvania, under the supervision of Dr. Ben Rafoth, a
most excellent advisor. Prior to teaching college, I
was a copy editor at the Waco Tribune-Herald and had intended for my
career direction to go in the direction of journalism, since I had
started off as a paste-up artist, then held positions as newsroom clerk,
sports reporter, vital statistics reporter, and college newspaper editor
twice over. In college I always vacillated between journalism and
teaching writing, but with technical writing, it seems to bring the two
together in document design. Using computers has also been a passion of
mine, so it is natural for me to be incorporating technology into my
teaching. When I'm not working (which is always, it seems, especially to
my family), I love reading novels by Michael Connelly, John Sandford,
William Gibson, Louise Erdrich, and Patricia Cornwell (an eclectic mix of
authors, I realize) and spending time with my husband
and family.
